A musician with a princely demeanor. In truth, everything about his persona is a lie. As the second-born son of a prestigious family, he was neglected and ignored by his parents in favor of his older brother. The attitude that he's had ingrained into him all his life - that he's one of the elite, that the people around him are all lesser than him - also did him no favors as a child in helping him to make any friends. He ended up isolated and alone as a result, desperate for attention and affection but with no idea as to how to obtain it.
At the age of eight, Kouichi finally made his first friend - or so he believed, anyway, for for the first time in his life, a classmate of his (Shin) showed him kindness. It didn't take long for the lonely Kouichi to latch onto him, to the point of being willing to go to any length to stay friends with him.
As he grew older, Kouichi learned from observing both his older brother and the people around him as to how popularity worked - that one had to put on a fake front in order to be loved, and that human beings were constantly seeking out someone to victimize in order to keep from being the one victimized. And so, picking up on his brother's manipulative tendencies, Kouichi put on a sweet face and a refined demeanor - and yet, all the while, he picked out weak targets to turn his classmates against in order to stay at the top of the totem pole. Better to be the victimizer than the victimized, after all, right?
Ironically, despite the fact that his only true wish is to be loved for who he is, he keeps almost everyone at a distance, letting no one see his true self. In fact, he's worn a mask for so long that he isn't certain what his true self even *is* anymore. He considers Shin his only true friend.
